From 20 March to 17 July 2026
On the occasion of the public opening on March 20, the Nicola Del Roscio Foundation presents an exhibition by Danh Vo, one of the most influential voices in contemporary art. The project stems from an idea by Diego Cassina to bring the artist - who has long integrated and developed a passion for the plant kingdom into his practice - into dialogue with Nicola Del Roscio, president of an art foundation whose roots also delve into botany, thus initiating a conversation that finds in plants a common shared denominator.
Danh Vo's practice unfolds through installations, sculptures, and site-specific interventions that intertwine personal and collective history. In recent years, Vo's relationship with plants has evolved thanks to a dual influence: the blooming gardens of his Güldenhof farm, north of Berlin, and the connection with a Vietnamese-German family that runs a flower shop beneath his city apartment. These relationships have offered Vo a perspective on plants ranging from spontaneously grown flowers in his gardens to carefully cultivated "cut" flowers for commercial sale in the shop. More than mere decorative elements, Vo considers flowers living presences laden with stories, memory, and culture. A flower can evoke love, participation, or care, but also bear witness to the cold circulation of goods and the cultivated DNA of colonialism. Plants are integrated into Vo's exhibition projects, becoming active organisms capable of establishing an intimate relationship with the public.
Over the years, Nicola Del Roscio has cultivated a deep bond with botany, which has become an integral part of his worldview and his relationship with art. In Gaeta, Del Roscio has created a botanical park particularly known for a significant collection of palms - plant species rich in symbolic, historical, and geographical references. The palm seeds, often rare, have been collected by Del Roscio during his travels around the world linked to various cultural projects.
As in Vo's work, here too plants take on a biographical and social register, while opening up to a broader dimension. Nature is implicated, perhaps even compromised, yet tends towards the universal. The park is a space of thought, where the slow time of plant growth intertwines with a broader reflection on care and memory.
The exhibition at the Nicola Del Roscio Foundation thus arises from elective affinities between artist and botanist. Nature is a presence that permeates the works, the exhibition space, and the curatorial vision. It offers the public a layered reflection on life, time, and responsibility towards the natural world.
