From 6 December to 8 February 2026
The Querini Stampalia Foundation presents Architectural Ephemera. Two installations by Valeriano Pastor and Michelina Michelotto, the first
event of a broader exhibition project dedicated to contemporary architects who have contributed to shaping the identity and transformations of Palazzo Querini Stampalia in a season of interventions that have deeply marked its recent history.
This exhibition is also a tribute to Valeriano Pastor, who passed away in 2023: the opening on December 6, 2025 coincides with the day of his birth, a detail that gives a special tone to the public presentation of the exhibition.
Architectural Ephemera, curated by Armando Cattaneo, Maura Manzelle, and Barbara Pastor, presents in the Scarpa Area the projects of the two installations that Valeriano Pastor and Michelina Michelotto carried out in 1987 for the Querini Stampalia following important projects and interventions on the Palace and on the occasion of the exhibitions: The Querini Stampalia. A family portrait in eighteenth-century Venice and One hundred glasses.
Glass works from 1951 to 1987.
Ephemeral interventions by nature, they contributed significantly to the renewal process of the Foundation and the recovery of the palace. Their coexistence in the spaces of Querini Stampalia constituted a significant signal of the research that Pastor was conducting on the characteristics of venetianitas, a research in which the resonances of the studies by Giuseppe Mazzariol, Sergio Bettini, and the design legacy of Carlo Scarpa are felt. A common element in the two projects is the skillful use of light and transparency: the softness with which reflections and shadows spread in the spaces, made possible by the water surfaces of the city, some marmorino plaster surfaces, the specific articulation of Venetian interior spaces, and the continuous dialogue between interior and exterior.
