Exponent of a Bergamo family of ancient tradition, Giovanni Secco Suardo surrenders himself to our eyes dressed informally, with his shirt undone, his head shaved, without a wig, in the presence of a servant of unforgettable physical truth. The contrast between the slightly stiff expression of the gentleman and the winking and shrewd expression of the servant is the true subject of the painting, also masterful in terms of the pictorial technique of chromatic splendor.
