Bruno Zoppetti. Studies for a Crucifixion is the title of the solo exhibition that will be inaugurated on Wednesday, April 30th at 5:00 pm at the Atelier del Tadini. Curated by Marco Albertario, the exhibition gathers a selection of unpublished sketches made by Zoppetti in preparation for the Crucifix of Pisogne and the Christ of the miners, giving the public insight into the heart of his research path.
The theme of the Crucifixion, understood as a representation of universal suffering, runs through the entire recent production of the artist. A profound, spiritual, and formal reflection at the same time, which found its first complete expression in the summer of 2024 with the presentation of the large canvas in the church frescoed by Romanino in Pisogne. However, upstream of that realization, there is a long preparatory work, never exhibited until today, which is finally being valued.
The exhibition develops as a close dialogue between the preparatory studies and the figurative sources that inspired them: from the reinterpretation of the great masters of the past to the translation, in a contemporary key, of an ancient and powerfully symbolic iconography. An emblematic example is the Miners' Polyptych, an unpublished work that places Christ at the center as an emblem of shared suffering, alongside the Mother of Gaza, a grieving figure alluding to present tragedies.
Zoppetti thus constructs a visual narrative that invites reflection on the meaning of Redemption today, in a world marked by wounds but still capable of beauty and redemption. The exhibition catalog is enriched with critical texts by Pierluigi Lanfranchi, professor of Greek Language and Literature at the University of Aix-Marseille, and by Marco Albertario.
