After the recent passing of Marta Czok in February of this year, the Marta Czok Foundation is proud to present the first exhibition after her death, with the international premiere of a VR collaboration with Anise Gallery and AVR London. In response to the 2025 Architecture Biennale, this selection of works presents the urban landscape as a key symbol in Czok's social and political critique and uses virtual reality to bring all this to life, reimagining the 1989 triptych 'The Other Half'.
In this exhibition, urban utopias and dystopias combine in Marta Czok's sharp political critique over the decades: at the mercy of market forces and social hierarchies, our environments, both urban and natural, have never been so fragile. Her cynicism is balanced by an unmistakable humor in her portrayal of the world and its inhabitants.
The exhibition also marks a further step in the ARCHĪVUM project: now more than ever, the Foundation aims to create a comprehensive archive of Czok's work. Beyond the process of cataloging and documenting her work, this is based on exploring innovative ways in which her work can continue to be reinterpreted and reimagined for posterity. New technologies, such as virtual reality, can provide a lens to repropose her artworks and continue to expand their audience.
The partnership with Anise Gallery and AVR London is crucial in this sense: it stems from an ongoing collaboration between Jacek Ludwig Scarso (Senior Curator, Marta Czok Foundation), Jacquelyn Jubert (Director of Anise Gallery), and Joseph Robson (Director of AVR London), which has included projects at the Tate Modern, the London Art Fair, and the London Festival of Architecture. This collaboration will continue to be present in our upcoming international projects.
