The magnificent sculpture offers a moving image of the suffering Christ while, deprived of strength, he seems to collapse next to the column of the flagellation. The artist, trained in Rome in the Berninian context, seems to sublimate the pain of the scourged in the almost ecstatic expression of the face and in the refined elegance of the model, suitable for a space reserved for private devotion.
