From 1 October to 13 November 2022
The Membrane exhibition concludes the first chapter of the project The Bestiary of the Earth conceived by the artist Yuval Avital for the Reggio Parma Festival. Scheduled from 1 October to 13 November in the magnificent Benedictine Cloisters of San Pietro, Membrane, curated by Marina Dacci, is divided into seven frescoed rooms on the ground floor with a focus on painting and drawing and, upstairs, with the presentation of the Foreign Bodies project.
For Foreign bodies, a selection of photographic images of the three stages developed from 2017 to today in various European territories (Switzerland, Germany and now Emilia shown here in preview) and an impressive multimedia installation in which moving images are accompanied are presented. from the sounds created by the artist in the long sleeve of the Cloisters. All three locations chosen by the artist in different territories have a strong, sometimes difficult nature, with which the dancers are called to measure themselves by seeking a deep contact between their body and the environment.
To enrich the reading of Foreign bodies in one room are visible the drawings, drawn in charcoal directly on the floor by the artist, of archetypal postures on which the performers expressed themselves during the various sessions and a room where it is possible to listen to the interviews with dancers on lived experience. The environment of the painting and drawing section on the ground floor is measured against the important frescoed decorations of the rooms, partly moving away from them and partly recalling them in a different key. The energy moved by the movement of color and sign is combined with the sound vibrations emitted by the Singing tubes, which amplify this walk from room to room.
In both plans the development of common lines is evident, despite the different stylistic figures and the media used. A search for identity to rebuild through a journey that, in adulthood, goes backwards, towards the origins. Return to the earth as a primal element, skin to skin, go into ancestral, personal and collective memories, descend into a darkness full of doubts and fears, sometimes of violence, to then go back up and re-establish a different contact with oneself and with others . The epic of life.
