The lower scene depicts the Funeral of Saint Stephen, set inside a paleochristian basilica. In the center is the catafalque with the body of the Saint, to the left the group of those officiating the farewell rite, and to the right a group of participants in the ceremony. In the latter, one can recognize Pope Pius II, the provost Carlo de'Medici, the slave Maddalena, and a probable self-portrait of Filippo Lippi with Fra' Diamante. On the right, bordering the central wall of the chapel, is the Stoning of Saint Stephen.
